However the real first impression often overlooked is the one that happens before you even lay eyes on your interviewer – the receptionist.
The first person you meet, the one you announce yourself to and the one who will observe you in these last nervous minutes before you enter the meeting. As recruiters we will often call on our receptionist to see what a candidate was like before the interview, how they carried themselves, were they polite, friendly, approachable?
We do this because our clients do!
From the moment the doorman greets you, when the security officer signs you in and the receptionist welcomes you, you are on the interview. At all these times, you are potentially being assessed on your people and communication skills and how you would fit into the company. All of which are vital attributes that prospective employers look for.
So make sure, at your next interview, the first foot through the door is the right foot!
