This client has a history going back to the late 1800s when they were established in the City of London. They opened their first overseas office in the 1970s and now have offices in ten locations across the globe. With over 500 lawyers worldwide, they are a dynamic, commercial firm and leaders in their specialist business areas.
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for all aspects of the London payroll and related compliance, including payments to Partners. Additionally, the department provides payroll related support to Finance teams in our international offices along with having oversight of international payrolls.
Responsibilities
- Reviewing the London and international office monthly payrolls and partner payments to ensure that they're complete and accurate.
- Ensuring that a robust control environment exists around payroll which is fully documented and reviewing all key payroll related processes and making recommendations for improvements.
- Undertake a review of the London payroll bureau and establish whether they continue to meet the needs of the firm.
- Where the existing bureau does not meet requirements, evaluate the services provided by other payroll bureaus and make recommendations.
- Support the implementation of the new HR system and a direct link to the London payroll bureau.
- Cover for the London Payroll and Accounts Officer during periods of absence, ensuring that the payroll is processed within the monthly deadline.
- Supporting the preparation of any monthly or ad hoc payments to Partners, employees and third parties as well as Assisting with any associated reconciliations.
- Assist with the preparation of journals and posting the payroll to ensure accurate and timely bank and internal account reconciliations. Review international office payroll related reconciliations.
- Assist with the preparation of all statutory returns, to include Employers Annual Return Form P35, Forms P14 and P60, P11D and also the firm's PAYE Settlement Agreement; processing P45s.
- Liaison with Tax & Partnership Department in respect of processes and compliance for in-pat and ex-pat issues.
- Deal with any UK payroll queries.
Candidate Profile
- CIPP qualified or equivalently experienced.
- Up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation.
- At least 5 years' payroll experience within a partnership structure, ideally a law firm.
- Experience of overseeing international payroll teams is essential.
- Must be a self-starter with a track record of driving change.
- Internal accounts and reconciliation experience.
- Some ex-pat/in-pat experience required.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of payroll software is essential.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Must be organised, with good attention to detail
