My client, an innovative and globally minded education network, is actively in the market for an experienced Data Protection Officer (DPO) & Legal Counsel to join them on a permanent basis in London (Mayfair).

Reporting to the company’s General Counsel, this DPO & Legal Counsel will lead their data privacy initiative and ensure compliance with the UK’s Data Protection Act. The successful DPO & Legal Counsel will be acting as the primary advisor to the entire company on data protection issues/matters and also support the General Counsel and senior leadership team with all legal matters and the firms’ legal and risk management strategies.

As the successful Data Protection Officer & Legal Counsel, you’ll be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:

• Data Privacy and Compliance:
  1. Develop, implement and monitor a global data protection strategy that is aligned with the UK Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR (as well as other international data privacy law)
  2. Ensuring compliance with privacy laws and providing updates on risk and compliance gaps
• Legal Counsel:
  1. Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts and agreements
  2. Conducting legal research to support business operations
  3. Managing legal disputes and investigations
  4. Providing legal advice on compliance with local and international regulations
• Training and Awareness:
  1. Promote a robust data privacy culture, ensuring employees understand and adhere to data protection best practices
  2. Develop and deliver data privacy training
• Data Subject Right:
  1. Ensure clear and efficient channels to allow all staff and customers to exercise their data rights
• Monitoring and Audits:
  1. Conducting regular internal audits and assessments of data processing
  2. Developing reports and dashboard for executive management

To be considered for this Data Protection Officer & Legal Counsel opportunity, you’ll need to have/be the following:

• Have extensive experience within Data Privacy/Protection (ideally as a DPO)
• Have extensive experience within a legal environment
• Ideally, have a Data Privacy/Protection certificate (CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, CDPO)
• Have experience scaling data compliance framework on a global basis
• Be extremely knowledgeable with Data Privacy/Protection laws and regulations
• Be able to commute to the London (Mayfair) office a minimum of three days a week
